What We Do

Our Mission

We’re a disability non-profit – one with personality and a casual wardrobe – working to create a more inclusive and empowering society for disabled people.

More specifically, we:

    • change perceptions of disability and break down outdated stereotypes and myths; and

    • provide financial assistance to help those in need access services and purchase equipment.

We’re on a mission to change what society expects from disabled people, and what you expect from a non-profit making social change.

Our Signature Moves

Each year, we make a variety of moves to support disabled people. Most important among these are: our flagship summer fundraiser and community event Move With Us (see above), our involvement in the ‘Wings For Life’ global run, and our generation of online advocacy and policy materials.

Over the last four years, we have raised more than AUD $300,000 to help more than 10 individuals in financial need to undertake an activity-based therapy program for spinal cord injuries at the NeuroMoves facility in Footscray, Victoria. NeuroMoves is the exercise services branch of Spinal Cord Injuries Australia.

We're also proud to have built a community of more than 1000 supporters and partners, with whom we dance, laugh and share open conversations to break down the myths and stereotypes about disability. Through this community, we're making moves to change the narrative around disability from one of pity to one of empowerment and potential.

In 2018, we launched an online video campaign to shift how we think about disability. People with disabilities are often called inspirational or heroic for going about their every day lives. While these comments are meant to encourage, they often have the dangerous effect of limiting potential and undermining self-esteem. They speak to a broader problem of low expectations of people with disabilities in society, and negative misconceptions about living with a disability. The video has in excess of 100,000 online views to date.

We’re #notstandingforit any longer. Are you?
